Designer MacGyver: 5 Wood Pallet Furniture Projects to Inspire You

Back when I used to work in a big bookstore, I’d often see wood pallets littering the receiving room. Pallets are indeed useful for shipping goods, but their use doesn’t have to stop there. According to Yahoo!, they’re the latest DIY craze with searches for “pallet furniture”, “wooded pallet projects,” and “pallet ideas” spiking. Want to get in on the trend? Take a look at these five fab uses for pallets and see which one inspires you to recycle with style.
SAFETY NOTE: Before crafting with pallets, be aware of the potential hazards like loose boards, bacteria and wood that may have been treated/come into contact with toxic chemicals like preservatives, fungicides and/or pesticides. Read here for more info, get smarter pallet crafting tips from Funky Junk Interiors and please craft responsibly!

wood pallet tv stand
Speaking of Funky Junk Interiors, once you read Donna’s excellent pallet wood safety post, check out what she’s done with them in her own home. I’m especially fond of this embellished TV stand. The milk and soda crates underneath? They’re DVD storage bins!

pallet coat rack
If you’ve got plenty of coats but are running low on closet space, a coat rack (like this one from Shelterness) is the natural solution. And the color gives it a dose of playfulness that reclaimed materials sometimes lack.

rustic towel bar
Who said you needed to use the whole pallet? Why not just a single board? This rustic towel bar is a little bit country, a little bit rock ‘n’ roll and a whole lot of cool. See more photos in our how-to article.

Which pallet project wood would you try? And are there any household items or scraps you’re wondering how to turn into crafts worth displaying?
